Window Frames.
Traditional vinyl frames have four Achilles heels:
- Retention. When left to its own composition, vinyl has the same screw retention as cardboard. When Polar Ray-O-Max set out to build a true lifetime product, we overcame this problem by developing a patent process that includes inserting a galvanized steel reinforcement by hand into every one of our windows. What does this mean to you? Our hardware will out-perform any other operating window (including wood) in terms of longevity, security, overall performance and sustained value.
- Thermal transference. Insulation efficiency suffers when interior and exterior temperatures differ by more than 40 degrees. Vinyl window manufacturers in the past have been content to offer a hollow framed window, which can actually offer a much larger heat loss than the panes of glass themselves. Polar Ray-O-Max fills the voids within their vinyl frames with high-density closed cell high impact foam. This results in not only superior thermal performance but also increases the structural integrity of your building envelope. All of this allows us to offer you a lifetime guarantee on our windows, and a 10 year extension on that guarantee if and when you ever sell your home.
- Weather seal. The bulk of vinyl window manufacturers create their frames with the weather seals permanently attached. This leads to two problems. 1) If the seal should ever fail, the entire window is compromised; and 2) Such seals can never provide fully sealed mitered corner joints. We overcame these problems by sourcing out a superior composite product – Santoprene ™ – that we apply by hand to all our products. Should one of our seals ever fail, we can replace it within 7 minutes, ensuring that the window performs the same way after 35 years that it did after day one. All Polar Ray-O-Max windows maintain three Santoprene ™ gaskets for a superior airtight seal.
- Limited Colour Choice. Anyone who has purchased vinyl windows knows that they come in either white, white, or off-white – hardly much choice for the client who has architectural aesthetics in mind! In conjunction with our vinyl frame manufacturer, Polar Ray-O-Max has developed a proprietary process that allows us to bond 18 different colours of paint to our frames, and allows us to offer a guarantee on our paint that is unsurpassed in the entire industry.
Glass.
True high-performance glass did not exist in the fenestration market until 2003. Up until then, a high grade, fine film of silver and/or other UV-retardant materials were sprayed on windows to combat overheating from excessive solar energy absorption. From an environmental perspective, we feel this process offers no net energy-saving gains and allows an inordinate amount of UV rays to pass through a window.
In geographical areas where the sun is known to drop below the horizon as early as 4pm, it hardly makes sense to have to turn your lights on at 2pm because your windows don’t let enough light through! For that reason, we take particular care in making sure that the right kind of glass is in the right window: the type of glass that you should have in the south, east and west sides of your house is not the same glass you should have in the north. It is our job to give homeowners the best window glass options to ensure their comfort level is met.
Window Powered Homes ™ Technology
Advanced heat reflective Power Glass ™ reflects up to 90% radiant heat back to the source – inside the room in winter, back outside in summer. The visible portion of the solar spectrum (sunlight) is allowed to pass through windows with Power Glass ™, thus the damaging invisible ultraviolet light is screened.
Together, Solar-Gold Power Spacer ™ and heat reflective Power Glass ™ virtually eliminates condensation and is able to transmit and retain (between 2-3 times) more energy during the day than they lose at night.
With as few as ten sunny days per month, Solar-Gold Spacerglass ™ will save energy dollars by delivering and storing a lasting source of free solar energy.
